Businesses outside the United States can register with The Campaign Registry (TCR) through Textr Team to send SMS to US numbers. In some cases you can register directly with your own company's tax ID. In other cases you cannot, and registering a US company is the way forward.
This article helps you check which situation applies to you, then explains how to register a US company and complete TCR registration under that company's name.
First, the review structure: TCR automatically verifies your brand identity, but TCR does not review, approve, or reject campaigns. Your campaign is reviewed by upstream connection partners and mobile carriers. Textr Team collects your information, submits it to TCR, and notifies you of the result.
Step 1: Check Whether You Can Register Directly
Whether you need a US company depends on your entity type. While TCR allows Sole Proprietor registration, this path strictly requires a physical address and an active mobile number in the US or Canada.
If you cannot provide these, you can register a US company, obtain an EIN, and complete TCR registration under that company's name. The rest of this article covers that path.
Step 2: Understand What a US Company Gives You
Registering a US company lets you register as a Standard Brand instead of a Sole Proprietor. The practical differences matter for bulk sending:
| Item | Sole Proprietor | Standard Brand (US company) |
|---|---|---|
| Tax ID required | No | Yes (EIN) |
| Campaigns per brand | 1 | Up to 50 by default |
| Phone numbers per campaign | 1 | Up to 49 (T-Mobile); more requires a Number Pool request and approval |
| Sending caps | 1,000 messages/day (T-Mobile), 15 messages/minute (AT&T) | Higher throughput, and can be raised further through Brand Vetting |
| Available use cases | Sole Proprietor only | Standard/Other plus special use cases where eligible |
| US or Canada address | Required | Required |
The main benefit for TCR purposes is the EIN. With an EIN you register a Standard Brand, which removes the Sole Proprietor limits on campaigns, numbers, and sending volume, and opens up more use cases.
Besides, registering a U.S. company can enhance the international brand and enhance the status and image of the company, but more importantly, it can obtain legal proof, so as to free capital in and out and facilitate international trade and overseas listing.
Step 3: Register the US Company
Who can register: Any person or company outside the US can register a US company, even if you are not a US citizen.
General process:
- Choose a state and register with that state's Secretary of State office. File the formation documents and pay the state fee.
- Prepare the required details: company name in English, registered state and address, business scope, director and shareholder identification, and articles of organization or incorporation. Requirements vary by state.
- After formation, apply for an EIN (Employer Identification Number) from the IRS.
- Use the EIN and your US company details to register a Standard Brand with TCR.
Two ways to do it:
- Through a registered agent or formation service. Many providers help overseas businesses register a US company and obtain an EIN.
- On your own. Research the specific state's requirements through official state government websites.
Note: Textr Team does not provide company formation, registered agent, or tax services. This section is general information only. Consult a qualified professional for your specific situation.
Step 4: Complete TCR Registration in Textr Team
- Log in to your Textr Team account at https://team.textrapp.com/.
- Click Settings > Register SMS Campaign > Local Numbers.
- Click Brand Registration. Select your legal form and enter your US company details exactly as they appear on your IRS EIN confirmation letter (SS-4 or CP-575). Your legal company name, EIN, and address must match official records, or your brand will show as Unverified.
- Wait for brand verification. TCR validates your details automatically against third-party sources.
- After your brand shows Verified, click Campaign Registration to submit your campaign.
- Once your campaign is approved, assign your Textr Team phone numbers.
With complete and compliant information, the full process from brand registration to campaign approval and going live takes about 14 business days.
Note: The review times above are estimates. The final review time depends on factors such as your registration type and the complexity of your information.
Tax ID Tips for International Brands
If your business is registered outside the US and possesses a local corporate tax ID, you may use it directly for TCR registration. However, please note:
- Your legal company name, tax ID, and address must match your official registration records exactly.
- TCR supports automatic tax ID matching for many countries, including the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Australia, and Singapore. Enter the numeric part of your VAT ID or your primary company registration number.
- A DUNS number is optional but helps TCR identify non-US brands faster.
- Businesses outside the US and Canada may need additional vetting to complete verification. For help with Brand Vetting, contact Textr Team support.
